Devotional 12-13-19

Psalm 146:5-10 New Revised Standard Version

Praise for God’s help

5 Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Lord their God,
6 who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith forever;
 7 who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;
8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
The Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the strangers;
he upholds the orphan and the widow,
But the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

10 The Lord will reign forever, your God,
O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord!

How comforting this must have been to the people hearing these words so very long ago. And how gracious they must have been as one verse after another, they were reminded of the glory of the Lord and all He had done for His people. They were reminded of the greatness of God’s magnificent creation surrounding them. But most of all, they knew their God would “…reign forever…for all generations.” And I can almost hear them shouting with the psalmist as he offered up, “Praise the Lord!”

As we rejoice in the birth of Jesus, let us remember that God is part of the big picture, and we are forever thankful for that. So let us raise our hearts and voices as is appropriate, saying
“PRAISE THE LORD!”
